μηλιά exhibition - Nicosia within the Walls
In a week when all citizens consider what’s best for their local communities by going to the polls for local council elections, an alternative group of young people display refreshing and creative ways in which one can contribute and gain from the heart of their capital.
μηλιά is a team of young individuals, inspired by the potential of Lefkosia within the walls and their love for creative learning, motivated to run community projects that enrich themselves as individuals as well as their society.
The group of 16-30year olds have spent the last 6 months exploring the
walled city in a range of imaginative and original means. They have founded and renovated their own creative workshop space in Faneromeni, decorated public spaces such as the toilets nearby, taken many walks to photograph and explore the history and topography of the area, organised activities that help them meet the diverse community that inhabits the heart of the capital, games and a events that bring people to the heart of the city that the 'apples' of the team have so grown to love.
This rich exhibit documents the wealth of experience the young people lived through their photography, writing, media and interactive stations, and shows just how inspirational the unique heart of our capital is to youth and creativity.
The project was co funded by the programme Youth in Action, in Partnership with Rainbow Art Supplies & Delta Soft Communications.
The exhibit will be held at Nicosia Municipality’s Peace Venue, located at the of Ledra Street, and open to the public from Friday 16th December 2011 at 6pm until Sunday 18th December 2011, 4pm.
