Misterioso-119
Versus Theatre presents "Misterioso-119", a play by Koffi Kwahulé.
Misterioso-119 takes place in a women's prison, where a drama therapist tries to interest the inmates in putting on a play. The prisoners, who talk about their crimes--one put her baby into a microwave oven--react unfavorably to the therapy. When the therapist is murdered by an inmate who claims to love her, the other women, in a scene ironically entitled "Eucharist," help her destroy the body. Any summary is, however, a distortion of the text, which is deliberately a tapestry of words, often repeated, words that are the mental projections of the women. There is no indication in the script of who is speaking... with Misterioso by Thelonious Monk playing in the background.
