Moliere: Amphitryon
Lefteris Voyiatzis returns to the National Theatre of Greece with a classic masterpiece, bold and funny, Moliere’s "Amphitryon" (1668).
The Plot
The comedy is inspired by Plautus, who took his subject from Greek mythology. Jupiter disguises himself as Amphitryon in order to crawl into Alcmene’s bed and Mercury transforms himself into Amphitryon’s slave, Sosias. But when the real Amphitryon shows up, chaos follows the divine intervention. A dangerous comedy, full of intrigue, twists, outrageous humor and passion.
The celebrated director will be guiding an exceptional cast from the National Theatre of Greece through Chryssa Prokopaki’s contemporary verse translation of the work.
