Monsieur Doumani
The Cypriot music group Monsieur Doumani, which was recently between the four finalist candidates for the best band in the international music awards Songlines Music Awards 2016, during their summer tour will have a performance at the open-air space of Technopolis 20 in Pafos, on Saturday, June 18 at 8:30pm.
In their latest album, ‘Sikoses’, keeping as their base the Cypriot traditional music, they compose new songs with influences from their trips abroad, while at the same time enrich their sound with electronic elements. They compose their songs in the Cypriot dialect, which are inspired by the contemporary socio-political situation in Cyprus, presented in a satirical and humorous mood, which is the band’s trademark.
Their first album «Grippy Grappa», with a bold and innovative approach to traditional Cypriot music, was the one that made the band popular worldwide, giving them a nomination for the best newcomer group in the international music Songlines Awards 2014, as well as participations in known international festivals such as WOMAD 2014 (Charlton Park), the Telemarkfestivalen (Norway), the Sommarschen (Sweden) etc.
The group was formed in 2011 by Antonis Antoniou (tzouras), Angelos Ionas (guitar) and Demetris Yiasemides (wind instruments).
