Moonstruck
Written in Political (Decapentasyllabic) verse, this 1960s play by Greek Cypriot folk poet Pavlos Liasides registers a tension between the natural and the supernatural, as evidenced by its title which also translates as “dreamer or pixilated.”
Directed by Nikos Chatzopoulos, this Athens Festival and House of Cyprus co-production will explore the play’s connections to the ancient Greek drama. Five performers will move back and forth between role-playing and narration, all the while retaining the play’s original language, a local Cypriot Greek variety that reflects the time at which the play was written.
