Mosaic works exhibition of the Agia Skepi Therapeutic Community
The Art Workshop of the Agia Skepi Therapeutic Community exhibits its first collection of mosaic works which are made at Agia Skepi in the course of therapy. We will be happy to extend to you our hospitality at Famagusta Gate, Nicosia, on Monday, 14 October 2013, at 19.30. The exhibition will be opened by Mr. Yiannis Yiannaki, Commissioner of Volunteering and Non Governmental Organizations.
It consists of art works made of chips which are cut and assembled so as to create something new, beautiful and wholesome. Like shreds of the human soul, some of which have been cut and others been injured and need to be reassembled in order to restore peace, forgiveness, composure. For that, which many people consider impossible, patience, willpower, trust and hope accomplish the desired outcome, to everybody’s surprise. Notable works by notable people who have experienced intense and painful situations to their full extent. Today, they exhibit their works of art, recomposed and proving that overcoming the addiction is feasible. They give the message that every human being has a remarkable potential which, if it is utilized correctly, with patience, life becomes calm and beautiful.
In the evening of the opening, there will be also a show of the documentary “Ypo tin Skepi Sou” (Under Your Shelter) (2013, duration 27’), produced under the direction of Elena Alonefti, which contains factual testimonies of people who are under a course of therapy at Agia Skepi. This documentary has been selected and shown at the “International Drugs and Harm Reduction Film Festival” which took place earlier this year in Vilnius, Lithuania. A second show of the documentary will take place on Thursday, 17 October at 19.30.
On Thursday, 17 October at 20.15, following the show of the documentary, an open discussion will be conducted with graduate members, the Head of the therapeutic programme Ms Tina Pavlou and the academic Dr Marios Adoni. All those attending will be welcome to pose questions and express their concerns on issues related to addictive substances as well as on the therapeutic program.
We will be very pleased to show you our hospitality at the exhibition at Famagusta Gate and offer you fresh organic food produced or processed at Agia Skepi.
