Musical Journeys; Works for clarinet, viola and piano
LMS invites you to a musical journey with an unusual combination of instruments, a clarinet, a viola and a piano. Some of the greatest composers were inspired to write works for this combination, the first of which was W. A. Mozart. His extremely dense and serene Trio in E flat major, largely eschews virtuosity in favour of exploiting the natural lyrical qualities of the clarinet and viola. Fr. Liszt’s nostalgic Romance oubliée, J. Brahms’s monumental Sonata in F minor for clarinet and piano, composed for the legendary clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, as well as four petite piano masterpieces by Fr. Chopin complete our musical journey.
