Mz Sunday Luv
Another LIVE ACT by klubd with Mz Sunday Luv!
Bio: This sassy Old Montreal resident arrived here from “the artistic hell” called Calgary, Alberta, three years ago. “Calgary is all about oil money and hockey, it’s no place to be a freak.” Christened Sunday not by hippie parents but after her grandmother “in the Greek tradition,” Mz. Luv, a singer, dancer, professional body-piercer and music producer, also regularly wows them on the streets and stages of our humble burg by breathing fire in the Gene Simmons tradition. Forced to learn this important skill backstage in half an hour after another fire breather abruptly backed out of a dance production Sunday had choreographed in Alberta at the very last minute, she strongly urges that nobody try this nifty trick at home. “It’s pretty fuckin’ dangerous, you know?”
What’s so exciting about her shtick? “Picture me, this five-foot tall girl, wearing a corset and army boots, being a freak, having a good time, spinning fire on chains, spitting fire, you know, it’s pretty cool. Like spinning fire on chains, right? I’m holding a chain on each hand and on the end of each chain is a big fuckin’ ball of fire, and I spin ’em around and it looks very pretty.”
One important element to successful fire breathing: Using the right fuel. “Like, you can’t just use gasoline. Like, okay, you can, and I’ve done it before, but you really shouldn’t. It’s bad for you and you’re more likely to have an accident and burn your face off. In fact, I don’t even want to tell you the fuels I use because I don’t want anyone trying to do this on their own.”
Is it safe to assume storing fuel in your mouth is vaguely unhealthy? “Yeah, it is. That’s why I charge so much. People ask me, ‘Hey, why won’t you do it for 100 bucks?’ And I’ve got to tell them, like, ‘Dude, I’m quite possibly going to be sick the next day.’ Like, it’s not good for your innards to have fuel in your mouth. For sure, you are going to be absorbing some of it—and that can make you feel pretty fuckin’ sick, man.”
Why you don’t want to be drunk when fire breathing: “Because if there’s booze in your system it can run right back down into your stomach. There’s a lot involved to this. Like, a friend of mine was breathing fire for a huge crowd once and a big wind came up from out of nowhere and blew it all back in his face. This guy never wore a mask but this one time he actually had one on, so yeah, his face was protected, but he has burn scars all along his neck now. Yeah, he was really lucky.”
Something Sunday will do for you: For a cool $500 she’ll teach you everything she knows. Contact her via [email protected].
Musical preferences: Nina Simone, Johnny Cash.
Last book read: Not Even My Name, by Thea Halo.
Words of wisdom: “If people always treated others how they wanted to be treated, people wouldn’t be so shitty all the time.”
