Negative Space Workshops
Explore the Negative Space in art
Participants will be investigating the aesthetic and conceptual abilities of the negative space in this last workshop of the series using plaster.
Negative space, in art, is the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject, not the subject itself, forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape, and such space occasionally is used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image.
The participants, under the guidance of artist Rebecca Efstathiou, will explore the plastic properties of gypsum using various molds and will create a series of small sculptures exploring the negative space in art.
