Nicosia Schools Orchestra
Concert of the Nicosia Schools Orchestra at the Paphos Ancient Odeon
The Nicosia Schools Orchestra was established by the Council of Ministers in November 2003, with main aims to provide opportunities for further music education and experience, to encourage students and music teachers for quality work, to develop music education and aesthetic education through music, and generally to promote the subject of music at school. The orchestra is working under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The responsibility during the rehearsals, performance and conducting of the orchestra is under the baton of Music Teachers Evagoras Karageorgis [Ευαγόρας Καραγιώργης] and Nikos Kiliaris [Νίκος Κοιλιαρής]. The members of the orchestra are approximately 40 students aged twelve to nineteen from Nicosia, coming from both public and private schools of the Secondary Education, and they play various instruments of the symphony orchestra.
The Nicosia Schools Orchestra has a very important role to play. During our concerts, we wish to offer unforgettable musical experiences to our members, and to bring the audience all around Cyprus together with the classical and contemporary work of Greek Cypriot, Greek, European and other composers.
