Trio in an intermediate tone - Nikolas Polychronis

Cyprus : Trio in an intermediate tone - Nikolas Polychronis

“Trio in an intermediate tone” is the title of the second personal exhibition of Nikolas Polychronis, presented by the Gallery Kypriaki Gonia.

The painter was born in Larnaca in 1982, studied painting in the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice from which he graduated in 2009.

The exhibition "Trio in an intermediate tone" is a very interesting glance through which the artist’s reflection and experimentation lead to colour compositions which can refer to music pieces.

Iosif Hatjikyriakos, painter, critic and Art Historian, comments about the artist’s work:

"Trio in an intermediate tone". A trio of colours on a piece of paper. We are the spectators of the second episode presented by Nicolas Polychronis in cooperation with the Kipriaki Gonia Gallery. The script is the same, the leading actors are the same, what changes is the music!

The pieces of art exhibited constitute the natural development of the artist’s work which does not change either course or tool. The leading actors are the colours Blue, Yellow and Red. In the current exhibition they transform into musicians, melodies and under the analytical gaze of their creator they create music compositions where the sounds transform into colour tones and the rhythm into diffusive colorature – lines of an almost transparent colourful substance. The eternal battle between colour and line finds its answer in the music performance and the visual vibration of the basic colours. The historic references which connect Nicholas’ work with the history of Art and painting experimentation are so many and recognizable that any reference to them would only spoil their very essence. Polychronis’ harmonic and at the same time without beginning melodies aim at practice! One’s personal practice with his means of communication, and also our own practice in the world of colours and sounds. Even though this practice constitutes a mirage of Art’s vanity, the musical poems that we see make one wonder about the usefulness of Arts, the cords which swing and the depths that travel us. The artist himself proposes a possible answer through his musical-colour experiments. We will find our own private answer inside us individually and collectively, in this process Nicholas’ art pieces are the means, which, like every music extract, lead us through our conscious and unconscious world."
