Noord Nederlandse Dans (Nicosia)
This 10 dancer strong contemporary dance company is based in Groningen, the Netherlands. It is the flagship for the Northern provinces and was established in 1997 by the Dutch Ministry of Culture.
The company operates since 1 January 2009 under the artistic directorship of Stephen Shropshire. The company has long been knows for its athleticism, musicality and virtuosity, and continues to present programmes that are both emotionally and intellectually engaging as well as physically thrilling.
The work, along with the work of a new generation of young international choreographers, re-confirms the company's position as one of the most exciting and original modern dance companies working in the Netherlands today.
The company has been a frequent guest at foreign festivals and venues in countries such as: Brazil, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Japan and Russia and aims to intensify these international relations to become a cultural ambassador for the city of Groningen.
INK
This choreography was the last work Shropshire made for NND/Galili Dance and thereby creates a bridge between the past and the present. By linking the letters of the alphabet to movements a choreography unfolds before your eyes, which is as unique and surprising as language itself. In an almost cinematic way he creates an atmosphere which is vulnerable and moving as well as earthly and physical.
WISHBONE
The destruction of conventional frames within dance and music and combining unexpected musical element. These are the most important objectives for the cooperation Shropshire started, also for this production, with the Dutch music composer Anne Parlevliet. An energetic work that continuously captures your attention by the stirring corporality Shropshire emphasises.
