Off Screen / Animation Exhibition
The Animattikon Project invites you to the exhibition of extra-cinematic animation "Off Screen" opening on the 26th of October at the Palia Ilektriki cultural space in Paphos. The exhibition is a part of the celebration of the IAD - International Animation Day celebrations and marks the opening of the festival. We are honored to welcome the Mayor of Paphos, Mr. Phedon Phedonos to open the exhibition.
The exhibition will be followed by the audiovisual chamber music concert "ARK II" International Animation Day Celebrations / ARK II at the Attikon Theater.
The exhibition attempts to explore the field of works often referred to as "extra-cinematic animation", "artistic animation", "exhibition animation", "animation installation" and others. The exhibition proposes a selection of animated works destined to be presented not as films in a movie theater but rather as exhibits.
Animation is a complex medium, since it contains elements of cinema as well as elements of the wider field of the visual arts. It is an aesthetic "knot" connecting firmly the duration of the recorded moving image with the duration of the viewer's gaze in the exhibition space.
Most of the works presented in the exhibition were intended to be presented beyond the cinematographic screen and, therefore, call the viewer to look at them in a different way - not by immersing oneself in the magical and mystical environment of the movie theater but by visiting a gallery or a museum. To put it differently, these are not works of time but works of space. Their arrangement in space, along with their content, is an element that informs and modifies their meaning.
