PAIN.T an art exhibition by Stelios Ermogenides
Six years after his first exhibition titled “I”, artist Stelios Ermogenides makes a comeback with his second solo “narrative” taking place in the “Space”, gathering more than 20 works of different dimensions to tell the story of a contemporary social “reality”. A reality where the depiction of pain – any kind of pain – is the central artery in the hands of the artist, it is the narrative which takes shape on paper. Thoughts shouting out loud, tragi-comic scenes of a present-day life, monologues, fancy colours, ample ink, local heroes, the Cypriot reality, a bourgeois society, compositions deliberately exaggerated stirring up tensions, uneasiness, awkwardness, where the viewer comes face to face with herself and her concealed inner suffering.
“Pain is the omen, the sorrow, the mother lode” a visual artist once wrote.
The exhibition “PAIN.T” is the narrative of this omen, of the events and situations women and men experience daily. It is the social strangulation of the people today with the handle of the vise turning day in, day out, it is family, religion, politics, love, relationships between people, inner admissions and non-admissions of a life where the socially accepted resembles a fiasco of an outrageous, colourful, incomprehensible and sad celebration running through our veins.
The opening night will be on Friday, the 16th of June at 20:00, while the exhibition will remain open from June 16 until July 8.
