People watching - Andreas Tomblin
“People watching” is a solo exhibition of location drawings by Andreas Tomblin.
All forms of drawing exist as living breathing entities that are essential to civilization and the developing world around us. Almost everything man has created in the modern world started life as a drawing.
The drawings produced in this exhibition are personal responses to the ways in which the subject matter communicates. They are a response that is intuitive and concerned with immediacy and spontaneity of drawing which was applied throughout the work. The drawings were created during the summer of 2014 at Makenzy Marina Beach, Larnaca and Macronissos, Ayia Napa, Cyprus.
The eyes that take in the visual information do not engage with the paper at any time and do not support the final outcome. They were constantly scanning the subject matter. The process of decoding and communicating the visual information is one that becomes second nature. It is immediate and unpredictable conveying an honesty of mark and line that I have also engaged in and explored within painting. I liken it to an improvised jazz performance that is not concerned with the final visual outcome and so the drawing no longer has the restriction of being a precious element from its birth. Unconstrained creativity becomes the driving force behind the outcome on a journey of experimentation and discovery.
When this subconscious mapping of visual information is undertaken unexpected outcomes manifest themselves in the resulting drawings. This in turn leads to new visual dialogues that communicate freedom and chance associations for the viewer.
Visual Artist, Evros A. Evriviades, will be inaugurating the exhibition.
