The Cultural Workshop Ayion Omologiton, with the collaboration of The Embassy of Sweden in Cyprus and the Cyprus Contemporary Film Center, Cynema Xanthis 3 and Pantheon Cinema, and with the support of The Cultural Services of The Ministry of Education and Culture is organizing a series of screenings to celebrate the Centenary since the birth of Ingmar Bergman.
The first film screening will be ‘Persona’ a masterpiece of cinema. It will take place at The Cultural Workshop Ayion Omologiton on Wednesday 16 May, at 8pm.
‘Persona’ is considered one of the greatest films ever made and Ingmar Bergman's magnum opus. Experimental and daring, it is as an example of brilliance in the medium of cinema. It has influenced many filmmakers since its release and is still drawing audiences whenever it is screened.
Summary:
A young nurse, Alma, is put in charge of Elisabeth Vogler: an actress who is seemingly healthy in all respects, but will not talk. As they spend time together, Alma speaks to Elisabeth constantly, never receiving any answer. Alma eventually confesses her secrets to a seemingly sympathetic Elisabeth and finds that her own personality is being submerged into Elisabeth's persona.
