Platres Urban Art
The Youth Club of Platres is a vibrant and integral part of the Platres social and cultural collective effort to provide locals and visitors alike with an interesting and varied entertainments calendar.
On Saturday 13th October 2012 the Youth Club is hosting the most comprehensive Graffiti and Street dance event ever seen in Cyprus.
The Graffiti Art - ‘THE ART OF GRAFFITI’- will take the form of a competition and it is anticipated that around 100 participants will be involved (in teams or groups of 1-5 persons). It will take place in Kryos Potamos Street (starting at 11.00 am) near the centre of the village, making use of the long, plain, cement wall of that road. The Youth Club will provide each team with a selection of 10 high grade Montana spray paints.
There is world-wide interest in the competition and already international graffiti artists are flying in from Poland and the UK to take part.
Participants have to be under 30 years of age and are obliged to submit a sketch before 9th October of their proposed design which must be in sympathy with the surrounding nature.
More Cyprus based graffiti artists – either individually or as teams – are required and should, in the first instance apply via email to [email protected] or telephone (00357) 99100917 . Applications to take part cannot be considered after 9th October 2012.
The Graffiti art will be judged and prize presentation will be held in the Platres Cultural Centre at 6.00 pm.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!!
Starting at 5.30 pm the entertainment moves to the Cultural Centre where D.J. Stefan V will host a spectacular evening of all forms of ‘street dance’ - Break dancing, Hip-Hop, Locking and Freestyle. The ‘Rebel Dancers’ will set the mood for the evening with dance exhibitions helped along with a fire dance by Victor Jakovuk . The evening is yours – come and show us what you can do!
Entry cost €6 on the night. A truly spectacular evening of modern dance. The first of its kind ever seen in Cyprus. 5.30pm until midnight.
The combination of these two ‘of the day’ art forms has excited interest from around the world and will be filmed for various international TV stations.
