Precursors and Pioneers of Contemporary Cypriot Art
The A. G. Leventis Gallery’s Wednesday’s Lecture, “Precursors and Pioneers of Contemporary Cypriot Art”, will take place on 4 June 2014.
The lecture will be given by Dr. Eleni Nikita, Art Historian and Curator of the Cyprus Collection of the A. G. Leventis Gallery. Dr. Nikita will speak about Cypriot artists who were working from the end of the 19th century throughout the first decades of the 20th century, paving the way for the first generation of Cypriot artists whose oeuvres laid the groundwork for the development of Contemporary Cypriot art. She will refer to Greek artists, such as Vasilis Michaelides, Christodoulos Kanthos, Michalis Hadjidemetriou, Vasili Vrionidis, who came to Cyprus during the aforementioned period, to teach art.
The lecture is organized on the occasion of the temporary exhibition “The Cyprus Collection: Representations and Interpretations – The Pioneers of Cypriot Art”.
