Printed Conversations by Evgenia Vasiloude
The Centre of Contemporary Art Diatopos presents the exhibition "Printed Conversations" with works by the artist Evgenia Vasiloude.
Evgenia Vasiloude is an engraver. She studied at the State School of Fine Arts in Kiev, Ukraine, between 1981 and ’88. She graduated with a Master in Fine Arts degree. During this time, she studied drawing, painting and engraving techniques – woodcut, linocut, lithography and etching. At the same time, she studied illustration, graphic design, calligraphy and history of art, in the Engraving and Graphic Arts Department.
Since 1992, she has shown her work in four solo shows, and she has participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus. She has also taken part in biennials and other engraving exhibitions abroad, including, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Switzerland, England, France, Russia, Spain and Sweden.
Her work, “Hymn to Demeter”, won the second jury prize at the 9th Cairo International Biennial, in 2003. Recently she took part in the group presentation of Cypriot engravers, “Nicosia-Portland Project”, in the state of Oregon in the USA. Works by her are found in the State Collection of Contemporary Cypriot Art, in bank collections, as well as in private ones.
Since 1989, she has been teaching in the fields of fine and graphic arts, in public schools in Cyprus.
Thematically and conceptually, her work originally focused on the female figure, embodied with references to mythology, especially, the goddess of nature and of fertility. More recently, she deals with issues on nature, the environment and women’s identity.
The exhibition opens on Friday, 20th of November at 20:00.
