Ramón Carnota
The Pharos Arts Foundation presents a Vihuela and Guitar recital with Ramón Carnota, one of Spain’s most talented young guitarists and prize winner of such prestigious international competitions as the Andrés Segovia Guitar Competition and the International Guitar Competition César Aira. The recital, which is kindly supported by the Embassy of Spain, will take place on Wednesday 29 October 2014, at The Shoe Factory, Nicosia / 8:30pm, and will feature works for vihuela and guitar by Luis de Narváez, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega, and Isaac Albéniz.
Ramón Carnota / guitar
Born in La Coruña, Spain, in 1977, Ramón Carnota studied with the guitar player Eulogio Albalat at the conservatory Agrupación Musical Albéniz in La Coruña, where he was awarded the Conservatory’s Honour Prize, and later at Escola Luthier in Barcelona. In 2002, he moved to Maastricht, Holland, where he studied with Carlo Marchione, and in 2004, he obtained his Masters degree “Cum Laude”.
Prize winner in some of the most prestigious international guitar competitions such as “Andrés Segovia” (La Herradura, Spain), Markneukirchen (Germany), and “Cesar Aira” (León, Spain), Ramón Carnota has given solo recitals all over Europe (Spain, Portugal, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and France) and has appeared with numerous orchestras, such as Sinfónica Ciudad de Pontevedra, Symphony Orchestra of the Maastricht Conservatory, and Orquesta de Cámara Galega. Among the most significant musicians for his development are Fernando Rodríguez, Álex Garrobé, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Marco Socías, José Tomás and Leo Brouwer.
Ramón Carnota is also a professor at the COSMAC (Music Conservatory of La Coruña) and he is regularly invited to adjudicate international guitar competitions and conduct master-classes in many European festivals.
