Reprint - Printmaking exhibition
The series of temporary exhibitions for the year 2017 concludes with a printmaking exhibition which opens on December 15th, 2017 and lasts until January 13th, 2018. For the first time the exhibition will present a selection of engravings from the Museum's collection alongside new works by eight Cypriot printmaking artists. The selected works from the collection features works by both Greek and Cypriot engravers including, A. Tassos and Vaso Katraki, as well as the well-known Greek painter Alexandros Alexandrakis. The Cypriot engravers are Costas Averkiou, Andreas Ladommatos and the well-known engraver, Hambis.
The participating artists invited to create a dialogue with the works of the collection are:
Evelyn Anastasiou / composition > movement
Despina Theocharous / analysis > detail
Kyriakos Theocharous / method > materiality
Charalambos Margaritis / mould > integration
Eleni Panagidou / relief > memory
Christina Symeou / colour > content
Marianna Tsangarou / surface > texture
Christos Hadjistylianou / concept > translation
Each participating artist proposed two words, presented next to their names above, which reveal the outcome of their work based on the engravings they selected from the collection. The encounter of the exhibiting works conveys the approach of two different generations, that of traditional engraving manifested in the works of the collection and the evolution of the medium today by the participating artists.
The exhibition will be opened on 15 December 2017 at 7 pm.
