A Romantic Journey for Flute and Piano
The concert focuses on that most beloved musical era, the Romantic period for the listeners to travel to another atmosphere in another world.
Amongst the musical pieces, Carl Reineckeʼs Undine Sonata, Op. 167, an unquestionably “romantic” masterpiece as Undine was a water spirit who fell in love with a human, was betrayed by him, gave him a fatal kiss and then returned to the water.
Other pieces include a paraphrase of Carl Maria von Weber's opera Der Freischütz by Claude-Paul Taffanel, one of the greatest 19th century French flautists, Ian Clarke's Orange Dawn, a piece originally inspired by the vision of a dawn scene in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa, the lovely Romance, Op. 37, by Camille Saint-Saëns, an epitome of Saint-Saëns' characteristic mixture of elegant melancholy with brilliance.
