Rooms to Contemplate
Content and Perspective of a Collection. Exhibition of Contemporary Cypriot Art
The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation opens its doors to the public with a visual art event that sets a precedent in the history of the Foundation and the island’s visual art scene: the exhibition Rooms to Contemplate / Content and Perspective of a Collection is curated by Dr Savvas Christodoulides, Visual Artist and Assistant Professor at Frederick University.
The exhibition aspires to display and bring out works from the most significant and richest private collection in Cyprus, that of the Cultural Foundation. Systematizing our efforts for the free access of citizens to the Collection but also their education in topics of contemporary art, the Cultural Foundation attests, once more, to the range of its contribution in the field of the Arts, and Culture in general.
Focusing on the public-private binary and its potent implications, the exhibition highlights emblematic works from the Collection and also works by artists of the younger generation. A host of paintings, sculptures, constructions, photographs and videos make up an exhibitory condition that traces the evolution of the history of art in Cyprus from the beginning of the previous century to the present day.
Collector and publisher Nicos Pattichis will open the exhibition.
The works selected from the Bank of Cyprus Collection are made by: Costas Averkiou, Costas Argyrou, Athina Antoniadou, Theodoulos Gregoriou, Panagiotis Cacoyiannis, Kyriakos Kallis, Ioannis Kissonergis, Demetris Constantinou, Niki Liodaki, Maria Loizidou, Angelos Makrides, Giorgos Mavroidis, Chara Metaxa, Michael Michaeledes, Sarah Lee (Michaelides), Loukia Nikolaidou, Costas Economou, Maro Bargilly, Andreas Savvides, Melina Shukuroglou, Panagiotis Tetsis, Vasos Falireas, Solomos Frangoulides, Valentinos Charalambous and Glyn Hughes.
