SaskiaUnreserved: In Print
“It’s important to give a voice to people whose opinion matters” says Saskia Constantinou about her book SaskiaUnreserved: In Print, published by Armida Publishers, which is to be launched on 10 April at The Shoe Factory in Nicosia.
Saskia is a Producer and Presenter at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation since 2000, working for the International Channel. It is since 2018 however, with the advent of the 4th radio channel – RIKClassic, that one of her dreams has become a reality: to have a no-holds barred conversation without the usual time constraints observed by media, with experienced people whose opinions matter.
“Creative, high achievers like to stir things up, and take calculated risks while pushing theselves harder than most and revelling in enjoying new directions to explore. Creative minds are also not crowd followers and set challenging but achievable goals. So, with this in mind, I set up the SaskiaUnreserved programme on RIK Radio 4. The reasoning behind the title of the programme, arose from the notion that it was time to give erudite, experienced people from around the world, in different sectors, an opportunity to have no-holds barred conversations without any restrictions or control. I’ve always tried to hold true to what Albert Einstein said – ‘Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning’.”
“As a daily programme, there have been over 280 interviews in the year, but it was only in late August that I thought of compiling a book of written interviews, hence SaskiaUnreserved: In Print. The book comprises interviews with 24 internationally renowned people from entrepreneurs to visual artists, from musicians to cyber security experts, from business managers and economists to many highly acclaimed doctors, scientists and mathematicians. I really feel honoured to have been privy to open and frank discussions, and hope in some way, their brilliant work and contributions to society have been brought further to the fore and inspire our community in many different ways.”
A few words about Saskia Constantinou:
Saskia Constantinou was born in Famagusta and moved with her family to South Africa in 1974. She joined the National Symphony Orchestra as a violinist where she played under top conductors and soloists before her entrepreneurial spirit and love of travel led her to simultaneously open a tour operating company with its own aircraft and cargo department. Due to continued violence in South Africa, Saskia moved back to Cyprus, continously travelling abroad in the meantime to further her media, broadcasting and business studies, and developing her own daily, classical music programmes. Saskia has also worked as a music critic and journalist in Cyprus, and for years, had her own column in local newspapers.
