Science and Archaeology - The Antikythera Mechanism
The Cyprus Institute and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki present the famous Mechanism of Antikythera. The discovery of the mechanism in an ancient shipwreck near Antikythera Island remains a milestone for the history of science and technology, as the devise was capable of highly accurate astronomical and calendar calculations. A team of scientists from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have created a new working replica of the mechanism based on interdisciplinary and technologically sophisticated research. Exhibited for the first time internationally, the replica reveals secrets of the mechanism lost for over 2000 years.
