The Second Viennese School
We are delighted to announce our upcoming event ‘The Second Viennese School’ that will take place at the Archontiko Technon (ARTE) on Friday, 10 February 2012. The event is dedicated to the second Viennese School, origins and evolution, and will include a lecture by Ayis Ioannides and concert featuring the The Cyprus Trio, George Georgiou (clarinet), Agata Jozwik (piano) and Annini Tsiouti (piano). The concert is organised by the ‘Friends of ARTE Society’ in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy in Cyprus and it is coordinated by DueCapi.
The Second Viennese School was a musical movement that started by Arnold Schoenberg in Vienna in the beginning of the 20th century. The main characteristic of this school was the complete reformation and understanding of the harmonic structure within classical music. Soon later, this tradition and idea was adopted by the whole world and became the genesis of various composition methods and styles.
The ‘Friends of ARTE Society’ is a non profit cultural organisation that promotes several events in order to give a new prospective into the cultural scene of Cyprus. The society gives opportunities to several young artists (painters, musicians, actors etc) to present their work and also combines together different genres bringing together all different forms of Art. So far, it has hosted some very important personalities such as the pianist Martino Tirimo and the poet Thomas Transtromer.
Formed in 2010, ‘The Cyprus Trio’ has already established itself as one of the finest chamber ensembles of Cyprus. Their lyrical playing, character and musicality are only some of the trio’s unique characteristic. It has already collaborated with some of Cyprus’ most important cultural organisations, such as the ‘Pharos Trust’. The trio consists of the violinist and concert master of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Wolfgang Schroeder, the cellist and principal of the cello section of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Peter Gospodinov and the pianist Naoko Kariya. The Cypriot clarinettist George Georgiou has been active in Cyprus and abroad with solo concerts and recitals in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Ireland, USA and UK. He is clarinettist in residence at the Avaton Contemporary Music Festival (Limassol) as well as the founder and artistic director of Cyprus Clarinet Studio. Agata Jozwik, a native from Poland, moved to Cyprus in 2003 where she is working as a piano instructor and a free-lance pianist. She appeared in concerts organized by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Cyprus Clarinet Studio, Pharos Trust, European University and the Center of Cypriot Composers. The Australian born pianist Annini Tsiouti holds degrees from École Normale de Musique de Paris and University of Sorbonne where she studied with Victoria Melki. She appeared in many concerts in Cyprus and Europe working with organisations such as AvantGarde and Cyprus Cultural Foundation. She currently leaves in Cyprus where she teaches piano and enjoys a freelance career.
