Short Matters
The Ministry of Education and Culture, the European Film Academy and the ARTos Foundation with the support of the Cyprus University of Technology invite short film lovers to the festival of awarded European short films Short Matters. They have the pleasure to present for the seventh consecutive year the best European short films of the European Film Academy. The screenings will take place at the ARTos Foundation in Nicosia on the 11th, 12th and 13th of September and at CUT in Limassol on the 17th and 18th of September.
Many of the films this year depart from difficult, sometimes very intimate situations. Some of them will make you laugh, others may disturb you or even shock you. Each of them opens a window to a different world. In their entirety they offer a glimpse of the galaxy of human experience, perception and emotion and give a taste of the creative diversity of European cinema.
The European Film Academy (EFA), based in Berlin, intends not only to honour the outstanding achievements of established filmmakers, but also to support and promote talented newcomers. To draw the attention to a new generation of European directors means to build up the future of European cinema. This is why, in 1998, EFA established the presentation of the European Short Film Award as part of the annual European Film Awards, in cooperation with several partner festivals across Europe. Each of these festivals presents a short film award which includes an automatic nomination in the European Film Awards’ short film category. The winning film for 2012 is Superman, spiderman or batman (Superman, spiderman sau batman) directed by Tudor Giurgiu from Romania. In 2013 the initiative included the following festivals:
• Flanders International Film Festival Ghent, Belgium (9-20/10/2012)
• Valladolid International Film Festival, Spain (20-27/10/2012)
