Sol Aurorae Ensemble
Inspired by the music traditions of the Mediterranean and Middle East, the “Sol Aurorae” ensemble presents its original combinations along with pieces from Cyprus, Greece, Armenia and Turkey, for the first time in Cyprus, starting from Paphos, at Technopolis 20 garden, of Sunday, 6th of August, at 8:30pm.
Sol Aurorae (sun of dawn) is a platform where four musicians express feelings and ideas, while sharing them to the audience through their music. What creates the unique sound of Sol Aurorae Ensemble in the combination of voice and percussion (Vassilis Filipou) with the Turkish ney (Meir Gassenbauer), the lyra (Christina Polycarpou) and the fretless guitar and saz (Juliano Abramovay). Each musician carries a personal way of expression through composing and performing but what united the group is the love of modal music.

A few words about the musicians
Meir Gassenbauer: an Israeli musician performer and composer who is based in the Netherlands since 2015. His music is mainly influenced by traditional music of Anatolian, modern Jazz and progressive rock. Currently studying at Codarts University of Arts at the world music department.
Juliano Abramovay: with a background of classical guitar, performed regularly in musical scene from Sao Paolo Brazil with the groups Grand Bazaar, orchestra Bandida and singer Luisa Lian. Soundtrack composer for dance theatre and cinema contributed for the movie “360” Fernando Meirelles. Also performs solo ensemble, always seeking repertoires that reveal unexpected musical connections. Based in Rotterdam since 2016 is following a master at Codart on the fretless guitar.
Christina Polycarpou: she was born in Cyprus where she currently lives, playing the lyra with an interest in the Eastern Mediterranean music traditions. She is a student of lyra player Kelly Thoma.
Vassilis Filipou: a composer based in the Netherlands who studied piano and composition earning BMus and two MMus degrees in London and Den Haag. His music in influenced by Modal music traditions and also European classical music.
