Soloists of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, continues the series of concerts with the participation of its members as soloists, and presents the concerts “Soloists of the CYSO (3)” with Ewa Bartmann (viola) and Nicos Ioannou (double bass).

The concert will begin with the Ballet Music for the opera Idomeneo by the famous Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart which takes place in Crete after the Trojan War and concerns the King of Crete Idomeneo. The concert will continue with Carl Ditter von Dittersdorf’s Sinfonia Concertante for viola, double bass and orchestra. Symbolically, the less famous than Mozart Dittersdorf, chose to compose for these two, mainly accompanying instruments that were rarely used as solo. The concert ends with Beethoven’s fourth symphony which through the spontaneity and freshness of its themes reflects the composer’s genius and his ability to charm the listener. The German composer Robert Schumann characteristically likened the Symphony no. 4 with a supple Greek girl standing between two giants from the West.

We therefore would like to invite you to the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra’s concerts to listen among other works, live to the viola and the double bass and their warm beautiful sounds performed with virtuosity by their leader musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.

Two concerts will take place on
Thursday 6 February 2014 at Larnaca Municipal Theatre and
Friday 7 February 2014 at Pallas Theatre, Nicosia at 20:30.
