Staring at the Sea, Alexandros Papadiamantis
The Violetta Art Company, which takes a particular interest in the dramatisation of literary works, presents two famous short stories by Alexandros Papadiamantis adated for stage: “Staring at the Sea” and “Dream on the Wave”.
How does memory stir? And when it stirs, how do the right pieces of nostalgia, dream, loneliness and pleasure come to the surface to fill in the void of existence that yet harbours the body of the Poet?
Papadiamantis’ language leaves no room for misinterpretations. It requires deliberation, respect and above all, dedication and reverence.
Marinella Vlachakis and Antonis Perantonakis joined by the musician Leonidas Maridakis who plays live on stage, dare (with full awareness of the risk) to stand up to the magnitude of the great Skiathian writer and to balance “…upon the rock of the desert shore …, between a pathway and a cliff …”, where he “…often stepped the boundaries...».
