Stones in His Pockets
Written by Marie Jones in 1996, Stones in His Pockets was staged for the first time in Belfast and went on to have a successful run in London’s West End and, from there, to Broadway. The play itself, as well as its stagings, received critical acclaim and multiple awards, including two Olivier Awards (2001) for Best Comedy and Best Actor.
This tragicomedy takes place in a small rural town in Ireland, where many of the townspeople are extras in a Hollywood production. Charlie and Jake are two local and hopeless men who are also employed as extras for the filming. So is Sean, who drowns himself by putting stones in his pockets.
The fake world of Hollywood collides with the harsh reality of a rural town. A story seen through the eyes of two people and the lives of fifteen characters, performed by Makis Papadimitriou and Yiorgos Chrysostomou.
