The Story of Soldier Woyzeck
The Story of Soldier Woyzeck is a performance for one actor and two musicians based on Georg Büchner’s play Woyzeck. It is the result of a collaboration of artists from Cyprus and Greece in co-production with the Centre of Performing Arts MITOS.
We wanted to focus on Woyzeck. Woyzeck not as individuality or case, but as a voice. We follow the exiled Woyzeck in his waste land and we offer him silence to speak, to be heard. To tell us his story, to find space among us and in this way to talk to us and talk for us. Facing Woyzeck, not prosecuting him. Giving him space to speak, to move, to desire.
Woyzeck is offering us a field in which various forces act together: the past as accomplished, as inescapable fact and also the past that memory keeps alive at present through bodily traces and through the scenic narration; the present as a desert of the exile, but also as a hope for relation through the crack that creates speech and presence, through the interaction between actor and audience; the future as a perspective in which there is space for everyone, a space of forgiveness, where all people sing together.
