Streichtrio Berlin

Cyprus : Streichtrio Berlin

Both the public and the international press – thrilled by the ensemble’s artistry at the highest level for years – can testify to the Streichtrio Berlin’s particularly concentrated and energised stage presence that spreads to the listener. The violin and viola players provide particular scope for playful expressiveness by playing standing up.

Originally founded in Berlin in 1991 under the name Gaede Trio, the ensemble in its current line-up with Thomas Selditz (violin), Felix Schwartz (viola) and Andreas Greger (cello) have been playing together since 2006. It has now been renamed the Streichtrio Berlin.

The Streichtrio Berlin's recent focus on French composers has resulted in its current CD release with works from Françaix, Jolivet, Milhaud and Chausson under the Crystal Classics label. A further production under the same label with works from Chausson and Faurè with be released soon. Numerous recordings with Sony/Japan, Largo Records and Tacet have also been re-released, which were published under the Gaede Trio name. Particular highlights include the trio’s recordings of Beethoven, the Goldberg Variations and the string trio “Le Chimay” from Eugène Ysaèÿe, which all received unqualified praise from the trade press and awards such as the “Audiophile CD of the Month” (Stereoplay), “Star of the Month” (FonoForum), “Recommendation of the Month” (Klassik Heute) and the “Diapason d´Or” in France.

The Streichtrio Berlin performs worldwide and, in addition to Germany, they recently appeared in Switzerland, at the Frick Collection in New York, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and at the Musikverein in Vienna. In addition, the ensemble is a regular guest at major chamber music festivals, ranging from the Styriarte Graz and the Bonn Beethoven Festival to the Rheingau Music Festival.

The ensemble’s repertoire extends from Baroque to contemporary music: for example the string trio has commissioned works from composers such as Georg Katzer and Siegfried Matthus. In autumn 2012, the ensemble will be performing the world premiere of the new string trio from Dimitri Terzakis at WDR (West German Radio).
