Susan Vargas - Taureapolis ll
Chiaki Kamikawa Contemporary Art Gallery presents the drawing exhibition of Susan Vargas entitled "Taureapolis ll."
These series of drawings belong to her latest painting work "Taureapolis" which was previously shown in Nicosia and Larnaca.
The drawings of Susan Vargas explore the infinite possibilities of the material while also experimenting with pencil, charcoal, and wax crayon.
Combining washes and linear drawings allows for an expressive use of the materials and treatment of the subject matter.
She relates the material in an intuitive manner to the subject constructing images from memories, personal stories, myths and daily life thus achieving a very personal pictorial imagery.
Animals, bulls, priests, rituals, natural disasters, cities are juxtaposed in surreal and poetic ways to search and question our responsibility and position in relation to the world we live in.
Although the drawings express a critical approach to the subject there is also a sense of humor in the narrative created by the unexpected use of imagery.
Susan Vargas was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1963.
She lives and works in Tala, Paphos.
