Ta Ekatol-loyia
Pyrinas Artist Collective - Ta Ekatol-loyia (One hundred Words of Love), a medieval love story from Cyprus.
Pyrinas Artist Collective in collaboration with the internationally renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Efren Lopez Sanz presents for the first time the Cypriot medieval play Ta Ekatol-loyia (One Hundred Words of Love). The play is written in the Cypriot dialect in a poetic form. It narrates the love of a young man for a beautiful woman who, in order to finally yield to his love, motivates him in a series of adventures with the ultimate accomplishment to learn and sing to her the Hundred Words of Love. The performance features live music with original compositions, medieval and Renais-sance’s melodies as well as music from the Cypriot Codex, the great manuscript written in the island during the Lousignan Period.

*Pyrinas Artist Collective members are Chryso Charalambous, Elena Hadjiafxendi, Michalis Kouloumis and Vasilis Philippou. The artists of Pyrinas aim to explore Cyprus’ literature, poetry and music and re-veal connections between them.
‘Ta Ekatol-loyia” is the third production of Pyrinas. Their first produc-tion was the Cypriot tale "The Godson of the King and Spanos" which was first staged in London in 2015. In 2016 and 2017 Pyrinas staged “Cyprus Rhymes of Love”, a production of the European Capital of Culture - Pafos2017 . As part of the Travelling Stage Programme it toured in different communities in Paphos. In this performance, a se-ries of narrative texts of many verse written by Cypriot poets in the cypriot dialect were reworked and presented on stage in an attempt to bring to their audience the beauty of Cypriot folk poetry in combi-nation with Cypriot traditional and Eastern Meditteannean music.
