TEDx Limassol
Limassol is preparing to host its very own TEDx event this September, courtesy of support from major private players, namely, Wargaming, MTN, and Prestigio.
TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began its life in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment and design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. The independently run TEDx events help share some of these ideas in communities around the world.
The first TEDxLimassol event is said to draw its inspiration from the extroverted, multinational, spontaneous, and enticing nature of the seaside town. With the majority of attendees expected from abroad, TEDxLimassol is imagined as being an evolution from the so-called ‘norm’ of professional gatherings, reflecting, rather, the cosmopolitanism of Limassol.
The organisers envision the event as contributing to the position of Limassol as an epicenter of scientific and technological developments, and innovation in the south east Mediterranean, thus bolstering its international image and its strategic position on both a business and touristic level.
Of the first TEDxLimassol, the Mayor of Limassol, Andreas Christou stated: “Finally, our town is playing host to a TED event! We are beyond proud that, this September, we will come to the forefront of attention, both locally and internationally. We deserve this opportunity, and will hone our strengths in organising this event to ensure we stage one of the most memorable TED events of 2014.”
Within the coming days, the relevant site – www.tedxlimassol.com – is expected to go live, through which all details of both the event and pre-events will be available.
