The Future is Lesbian
Accept Women’s Group invites you to a presentation with the subject:
«The Future is Lesbian: Transnational Queer Feminism from the 70s to Now»
2016 saw the return of the 1970s slogan ‘The Future is Female’ splattered across t-shirts, magnets, cups, protest placards and even Hilary Clinton’s campaign. However, the specific phrase has its roots in the radical lesbian movement of the 70s in the US. What have lesbian movements taught feminism and women in their joint efforts to overthrow patriarchy and to produce social change? This visual presentation will provide an overview of several movements from the US, Europe and Latin America to draw out lesbian criticism levelled against patriarchy. Exploring both the tensions as well as the coalitions between feminist, black, trans and lesbian movements, the talk will focus on historical and contemporary creative strategies that are employed to mobilize the sisterhood.
The presentation is led by Diana Georgiou, writer, curator and co-director of the queer-feminist arts organisation CUNTemporary, and will be followed by a group discussion.
