The House
Within the framework of ‘‘Guest Performances’’ and under the auspices of the Bi-Communal Technical Committee on Culture, audiences will have the opportunity to attend one of the most recent productions of the Turkish Cypriot Municipal Theatre of Nicosia (Lefkoşa Belediye Tiyatrosu) with the staging of The House, written and directed by Aliye Ummanel.
During its 36 years of operation the Turkish Cypriot Municipal Theatre of Nicosia has in collaboration/co-production with the Satiricon Theatre sold-out productions, including:
Peace by Aristophanes, directed by Yasar Ersoy, 1987, Satiricon Theatre.
Shut Up and Do Your Job by Haldun Taner, directed by Yasar Ersoy, 2003, Satiricon Theatre.
Lysistrata by Aristophanes, directed by Christos Zanos, 2004 in colaboration with the Satiricon Theatre as part of the the Kypria International Festival 2004 (performances given islandwide).
The Missing written and directed by Aliye Ummanel, 2015, Satiricon Theatre (performed at Rialto Theatre).
Cyprus: I was bittered in Greek, I was hurt in Turkish, a poetic work written by Faize Ozdermiciler and directed by Yasar Ersoy in 2015, Satiricon Theatre.
The House, which deals with matters of the island’s recent history, will be staged for only two performances at the Cyprus Theatre Organisation’s New Stage on the 22nd and 23rd of November surtitled in Greek and English.
The play deals with matters of refuge, war and ownership, that are still relevant to this day. Through five female characters the play focuses on the female perspective towards these matters.
