Theseus Street Festival

Theseus street within the medieval walls of Nicosia, after the success of the first Festival in May 2010, will host the second "Theseus street Festival". It will take place on the 27th and 28th of May 2011.

The Festival has an anti- consumeristic approach, as one of the messages being communicated is the regaining of public space for the people and the neighborhoods and the improvement of the quality of life of the citizens of Nicosia, against any development that has only a financial gain.

The Theseus Street Festival is not only for and about the residents of the neighbourhood, but becomes a motivation for all the inhabitants of the walled city of Nicosia and other aware citizens to highlight the following goals of the Festival:

• To invite all to experience and realize the positive aspects of living in the Medieval Center.
• To show the affection and love of the people for their neighborhood.
• To send out a strong message for regaining the public space and for improving the quality of life within the walled city of Nicosia.
• Theseus street is a neighborhood like many others in the Medieval Town that has an important role to play in the city.
• To participate in the European Neighbours’ Day, and have once again organized groups and activists participating in the organization of the Festival.

Activities:
• Photography exhibition and an open discussion with audio-visual material about “the city”, outdoor projections, art exhibition.
• Music workshops, Cypriot and Greek music from bands.
• Workshop for constructing art with recycled objects, workshops for children.
• Mural and Graffiti.
• Open Houses: some of the houses in Thiseos Street will open their doors to the guests of the Festival offering them refreshments and treats.

The activities will take place at different places in Theseus Street, ETEK square and in some houses of the neighbourhood.

Opening hours:
Friday, 27th of May, 19:00-22:30 discussion and projections, 22:30-24:00 Open Houses.
Saturday 28th of May, main day of the Festival, activities will take place from 16:00 to 24:00.

The Festival is co-organized by “Ariadne’s Thread” (a group of residents of Theseus Street) and Easy Going Productions and is also officially supported by the Municipality of Nicosia.
