The Third Wedding
«The Third Wedding», the autobiographical novel that established Costas Taktsis among the most eminent novelists of the twentieth century, is staged by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, directed by Takis Tzamaryias , dramatisation by Savvas Kyriakides and music by Evanthia Reboutsika. Through the memories and narrations of the two women, Hecuba and Nina, the writer attempts to delineate the character of the Modern Greek middle class, as shaped during the first half of the previous century. Passion, forbidden love affairs, lies, disappointments, and death compose the past of these emblematic women which unfolds before our eyes, revealing the pathogenesis of the middle-class Greek who are unable to liberate themselves from the oppressive structures of Greek family. At the same time, this private past is interwoven with the national past, the history of Modern Greece, which abounds with glorious as well as tragic moments: the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars, Asia Minor Disaster, Second World War and Occupation.
