TratSik String Quartet
"TratSik String Quartet", an exciting new chamber music project, will de debuting new music influenced and inspired by the traditional music idiom of Cyprus, on three concerts taking place during April in Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia.
This unique, extraordinary project involves four young, talented composers, who were commissioned to compose new pieces for the four players of the string quartet, on the basis of using and maintaining almost unaltered the folk-oriented nature of the melodic material of the Cypriot songs and dances from which they were inspired, such as Psintri Vasilitzia, O Dasonomos, I Stamna, O Voskos etc. However, they were asked to feel free to explore and combine the charming simplicity of tradition with modern vocabulary, experimental extended performance techniques and the dynamic characteristics of the string quartet, in order to give to the music an individual, distinctive character and a personal aesthetic.
The TratSik String Quartet will “rock the house” and give four enthusiastic, powerful performances, on April 13th at the Cypriot wine museum in Limassol (Erimi), April 15th at Technopolis 20 in Paphos, and April 16th at the Music Academy ARTE in Nicosia.
TratSik String Quartet project is made up of George Hadjigeorgiou and Spyros Spyrou on Violin, Nikolas Efthymiou in Viola, Doros Zesimos on Violoncello and Andreas Papapetrou, Andys Skordis, Dimitris Tsoukas and Stavros Choplaros in Composition.
