Trios For Piano, Violin and Cello
Ledra Music Soloists invites you to attend an exceptionally pleasant and exciting recital featuring works for Piano Trio with Nicolas Costantinou, Nikos Pittas and Brice Catherin.
Works (sonatas) for piano with violin and cello accompaniment became quite fashionable in London during the mid-18th century. Having as its predecessor the duo or trio sonatas that flourished during the Baroque era, the gradual domination of fortepiano over the earlier harpsichord resulted in the reversal of the leading role from the strings to the fortepiano. This type of piano trio set out in targeting primarily amateurs women pianists whose efforts were supported by the two strings. Haydn’s Trio in C is not only a prime example but also a opens the road towards equal treatment of the three instruments, a characteristic of the works of Beethoven. The Trio in D has all the features of Beethoven’s 'Heroic' middle period, with its second movement giving the Trio its nickname 'The Ghost' as it was inspired by Shakespeare's Macbeth. In contrast, Ravel’s Trio with its exquisite timbre is a fine example in the 20th century literature, exhibiting all the technical innovations of the era.
