Two subjects - One exhibition

Cyprus : Two subjects - One exhibition

The Collection Gallery will be showcasing the artworks of George Gavriel in a solo exhibition entitled "Two subjects – One exhibition"

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture, Mr. Costas Kadis on 7th of September 2016, at 7:30 pm.

The work of the artist presents two themes, as the title suggests. It is "spiritual" and also addressed to the senses. The first one presents the Cypriot life completely given from his own perspective and his own timeless aesthetic criteria and the other one states dynamically, that "artists make art in the service of society, create projects that fight injustice and encourage participation in political action.” In a roll-over time when society is shaken to its foundations, George Gavriel, a sensitive artist is again at the forefront. This theme is a review of the new order of things as we experience today, given through an experimental approach.

Additionally, it is evident that the artist's effort is to create an art "Cyprus", based on the rich cultural traditions of the country and given through a modern approach. Not only is the theme that has been the heart of Cyprus but also the way it is expressed. The way he constructs his works imbued with elements from thousands of years of history and culture that carries the brunt of this place.

The main feature of his work that gives quality is the ancient measure. Thrifty, effective, penetrates the issue of creating projects with inwardness and depth. Robust, monumental, balance between movement and stillness and easily earn the appreciation and respect for the viewer. The background in his paintings is simple with limited color range and aim to further highlight their subject, objects and figures of people despite the surroundings. The artist incorporates elements from Cypriot culture, which is particularly rich in monumental art. It develops its own expression language and adopting elements of modernism and postmodernism.

The art exhibition will remain open to the public from the 7th of September 2016, until the 4th of October 2016.
