The Unanswered Question
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents three unique concerts with a fascinating programme that will satisfy the audiences. With Annini Tsiouti, piano soloist and conducted by Christina Athinodorou the orchestra will provide the listeners with diverse sounds; from the sound of Persia to the modern era of the 20th century.
The Cypriot composer Andreas Tsiartas, in his composition Ay-wahda-yorû merges into each other sonic and rhythmical units based on closely related Persian and African popular poetic meters and speculates that these along with similar rhythmic meters of other people are present in oral traditions worldwide. Poulenc’s ballet Aubade is based on the myth of Diana, the goddess of the hunt and her inner conflict between maintaining her chastity and succumbing to love. Through The Unanswered Question, Ives expresses his philosophical contemplation on the “sublime mystery of creation”. Camille Saint-Saӫns’ 2nd Symphony is distinguished for its formal innovation, colourful orchestration and its fiery tarantella finale.
