Uncovering Tradition, Each song, one story
Michalis Tterlikkas and his music company “Muse” present a selection of traditional songs that were brought to light through their activities since 1983. Songs to which they have added their own perspective, respecting the original structure, style and ethos. The concert programme includes undocumented songs; songs that existed in old collections only with their lyrics; documented songs that had never been recorded or have been recorded quite some time ago, but either did not achieve popularity or were forgotten, as well as recorded songs to which the ensemble has given a new dimension. With this concert, Michalis Tterlikkas and his collaborators seek to share their experiences with the audience, in an effort to help bring the traditional music of Cyprus closer to the present generation and perhaps contribute to regaining our traumatised identity. Indirectly, they also propose one of several ways in which, even nowadays, we can establish a dialogue with tradition and keep it alive – an issue which has raised many conflicting opinions.
