Vaughan Williams to Vasks
Performing together for the second time ever (and the first in Cyprus), sisters Miriam and Lydia Sharrad present an eclectic programme of music for flute and voice at Technopolis 20, on Friday, 7th of October 2016 at 8pm.
From Vaughan Williams to Vasks, from Corigliano to Rodrigo, the programme focuses on composers who drew heavily on the folk traditions of their own and other countries. Join us and experience the poems of Jiménez as set by Joaquin Rodrigo, the descriptive beauty of Peteris Vasks, Landscape with Birds and much more.

A few words about the artists
Miriam Sharrad – Soprano: Miriam made her debut with the Australian Opera Studio before moving to London where she has worked with companies such as The English Touring Opera, Grange Park Opera and Opera South performing roles such as Marcellina The Marriage of Figaro, Mrs Fox Fantastic Mr Fox, Filippyevna Eugene Onegin and Fenena Nabucco. On the concert platform, Miriam has sung Waltraute Götterdämmerung conducted by David Syrus, Schwertleite Die Walküre with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Sir Andrew Davis, Brangäne Tristan und Isolde with the Edinburgh Players Opera Group and Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesesllen with The South East London Orchestra. She recently performed the role of Martha in the world premiere of Susie Self’s new opera, The Butt, which featured as part of the Musiktheatertage festival in Vienna.
Lydia Sharrad – Flute: Lydia completed her undergraduate degree at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, Australia, and went on to study Masters of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium. She has performed as principal with the Australian Youth Orchestra three years in a row, has toured with them to Europe in 2013, was soloist with the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra in Australia and New Zealand, performing Mozart’s Flute Concerto 53 times in 2 months. She has worked with Orchestra Victoria and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and is currently in Europe undertaking training courses in baroque flute.
