Videonale 11 - 13
A presentation of the best entries by Georg Elben at the ARTos Foundation.
“...one of the world’s oldest festivals for video art. Both stars and up-and-coming young artists of the international video-art scene can be found there” WDR5 Scala
The Goethe-Institut Cyprus in collaboration with the ARTos Foundation have invited Georg Elben, director of “VIDEONALE” until summer 2011. Georg Elben will present a selection of the best entries at the last three festivals (2007, 2009 and 2011) and will also introduce the art exhibitions, which always accompany the VIDEONALE Festivals. Lastly, Georg Elben will also present the selection criteria for the current open call for the VIDEONALE 14 festival, which will take place in 2013.
Founded in 1984, the biennial VIDEONALE today counts as one of the oldest and most renowned festivals of video art in the world. Participants include such trend-setting artists as Dara Birnbaum, Lynn Hershman, Marcel Odenbach, Michael Smith, Bill Viola and others. To
this day VIDEONALE sees itself as a festival of national and international video art, both for ambitious young artists and for established artists.
Mr. Elben is now director of Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl / Germany, a museum specialized in sculpture, sound and video art, which every year selects the winners of the very prestigious “Marler Video Art Prize”, a prize established in 1984 – the first national competition of its kind in Germany. This concentration on new media arts became the second focal point for the museum.
