Violin and Piano Recital
Chamber Music Concert with George Vass and Catalina Teican.
Over the thirty five or so years of concertizing, George Vass has played
in 3 continents: Europe, Asia and the Americas. He is praised for his interpretations of the classics as well as for his performing style where he prefers to model his sound to the human voice rather than the percussiveness of the pianoforte. He has been trained by Vahan Bedelian, Ivan Galamian, Harry Shub, David Takeno, and Oliver Steiner, teachers that trace their tradition to Joseph Joachim, Leopold Auer, Konstantin Mostras, Lucien Capet , Cezar Espejo, Demetrius Dounis and Nathan Milstein. He started his musical training as a six year old in his native Cyprus and then continued in the United Kingdom and the United States. He has given solo concerts in notable venues around the world including the Beethoven Haus in Bonn, the Peoples Theatre, Beijing, Teatro des Bellas Artes, Mexico, Carnegie and Wigmore Halls as well as the Dag Hammersjold Hall at the United Nations. He alternates between two violins for his concerts: The Kreisler-Greville Stradivarius of 1726 and a J.F. Pressenda of 1834.
A native of Romania, Catalina Teican holds degrees from the Academy of Music in Bucharest and Bowling Green State University. Upon completion of her MA at BGSU, Ms. Teican was awarded a Fellowship of
the Arts by the University of Iowa where she is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in piano and piano pedagogy studying with Uriel Tsachor.
