Visual Act - Crisis & Comments
Leaving aside the controversial forms of art, the artist and lecturer at the Nicosia University, Maria Christoforou presents her 4th exhibition "Visual Act" along with her latest book "Crisis and Comments ".
Opening: Saturday 3rd of May 2014, 19:30, at Kasteliotissa Hall. Duration 3-4 May 2014. Working hours Saturday 19.30-22.30 | Sunday 11.00-22.30
Exhibition: Maria Christoforou a woman with both a complex and diverse personality experiments with the fusion of new technologies and subversively deals with the subject of the financial crisis portraying it in a rather surrealistic way. Releasing herself from the stereotypes, she passes on her own messages with subtle humour creating an installation in a place which is filled with a theatrical atmosphere combined uniquely with digital art, music, video, crafts and performance.
Book: The book which is filled with photographs, taken by Maria Christoforou, presents the financial crisis through two 'worlds'. (Two different views of Nicosia). This collection primarily evolved from the artist's viewpoint as a female messenger of pictures and colours, glancing at the landscape through motherly and loving eyes. Perhaps the photographs present the crisis but also present our own individual crisis or perhaps even reflect the multi-dimensional and surreal situation of the present. The crisis after all is not a recent phenomenon. A collection of dull and ugly pictures combined with ones full of beauty and creativity. A battle between white and black-a puzzle of colours and emotions!
