Waltz

In a destroyed landscape, buried in the ground, the characters of “Waltz” strive to seek happiness. Their sole companion is their own self. Carrying the burden of their bodies they fight in a last attempt to find their long lost truth. They desperately want to recall what it is like to love, to dream and to reconcile with the past, the dreams and desires that remain unfulfilled and the people that have “gone”. And through this painful process they will meet their lives again and bid farewell with a smile.

Lonely and isolated, the characters of “Waltz” embark on a journey into the unconscious in a desperate pursuit of happiness. This journey reveals both dreams and nightmares. Gradually another world emerges, consisting of dreams made up of light and shade; a circus inhabited by secret desires and muted fears. In this world nobody remains unpunished. Driven by their dreams and fragments of memory, the travelers reveal hidden sides of consciousness in an effort to find that long-forgotten innocent gaze and childhood feeling that was lost as they grew up.

The world of “Waltz” is inspired by the glittering world of the circus and its poetic melancholy.

X-it Dancetheatre was founded in 2003 by Fotis Nikolaou and is based in Athens, Greece. FOTIS NIKOLAOU
Fotis Nikolaou was born in Famagusta, Cyprus. He graduated from the State School of Dance in Athens. He continued his studies in New York. He is the founder, artistic director and choreographer of X-it Dancetheatre. He choreographed the following productions for the company: “Spiegel Im Spiegel”, “Waltz”, “Amen”, “La vie impossible”, “The Ninth Hour”, “Not Yet” and “Love Shots”.
As a choreographer and director he collaborated with the Cyprus National Theatre (2011) “A little more”, Theater Dentro (2011) “Just another love story?” and the Greek National Ballet (2007) “Lonely Room”. He choreographed the operas “Salome” for the Malmoe Opera in Sweden (2009) and “Orpheus and Euridice” for the Greek National Opera (2007).
He was the official choreographer for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. As a dancer he collaborated with numerous dance companies and organizations in Greece, Cyprus, New York and Germany such as, Edafos Dancetheatre, Oktana Dancetheatre, Noema Dance Works, Echo Arts, Wide Open Project, Ad Lib, the Athens Concert Hall and others.
